The perfect reason to buy new shoes for Earth Day

I know, I know, it’s totally irritating when companies (and bloggers!) pitch products to celebrate Earth Day 2012 on April 22nd. After all, wouldn’t the Earth be better off if we all stopped buying stuff?

Well, yes and no. We need to eat, and most of us tend to be more comfortable if we bathe regularly and clothe ourselves (well, at least I am – I know there are others who disagree – my kids definitely fall into that “other” category). So to me, shopping has become a necessary evil, but can be fun when it’s done right – it’s all about product selection and timing.

Of course, I work hard to find brands and retailers who genuinely care for our planet, its people and our legacy and I vote with my dollars by intentionally seeking out these brands and products. It can be an arduous process at times, but it is worth it to me to ensure my dollars are used to support my family’s values, my community and the health of my family and the workers making and selling products we buy. Generally, the timing piece means waiting until a particular product becomes available, shopping during a sale to save a little money, or even picking the best time of the day for my kids’ moods.

And oftentimes for many of us, it also means shopping for a cause…like this one!

If you’ve been here before, then you already know that Healthy Child Healthy World is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. When my daughter Kaitlyn suffered from severe and chronic respiratory distress for which there appeared to be no cure, Healthy Child Healthy World was among the handful of organizations which provided much needed advice and encouragement, leading my family to make the changes we needed to make in our home to help our little girl get healthy and strong.

This is one of the most generous donation programs I’ve seen, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. And there’s more! While I own several Patagonia clothing items, I did not have first-hand experience with their shoes.     So I added everything I could to get entries!! I don’t have a twitter so I added Healthy Child Healthy World, Green Kids Guide, OnlineShoes.com and Patagonia! Amazing sites on Facebook thanks for the link and the entry as well !~<3 I also signed up for the newsletter for Healthy Child Healthy World and added to Circles Green Kids Guide and Followed Green Kids Guide on Pinterest… That puts me up to whatever that is in entries :) I have not seen this site and I do have to point out that the best part of the site is the wide selection of Vegan shoes! I have such a hard time finding likeable vegan friendly shoes I adore. More than adore, but that are comfortable ;/ I have gone through a few different brands and have not been able to find a good quality I can keep. If I had to pick a possible shoes from all the ones you have I have to say I absolutely ADORE the Sanuk Cadet Green.. The double strap and clean look is just so cute! I have not had a pair of new shoes in some time so it would be such a blessing to me :)
