Go Green Get Fit Challenge Week 12: Keeping Up the Momentum

This week’s Go Green Get Fit Challenge Topic is Keeping Up the Momentum!

The last 12 weeks have been a lot of fun, a lot of work, and a lot of satisfaction, knowing that I set and achieved my fitness goals for the summer – something I haven’t done since I was in college, almost 20 years ago. I feel so fortunate to have been a part of the Go Green Get Fit Challenge and had the opportunity to be inspired buy and learn from all of the amazing Green Bloggers who helped to lead the way as well as all of the challenge participants who connected via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and the EcoMom Alliance Discussion Board!

As we get ready to wrap up the challenge, it is important to think about what’s next. How will I keep my momentum? Who will I turn to for inspiration and motivation? What will drive me to keep going?

I wish I had a magic bullet to answer all of those questions, but I know that the most important thing I gained in this challenge is the self-confidence to know that I can achieve the health and fitness goals I set for myself. And I learned that there are many other women who struggle with the same kinds of challenges I do: finding the time to exercise, finding the will power to eat right, finding the time to research the best, greenest products, finding the time to plan and execute healthy menus for the whole family, and much more!

I am satisfied knowing that after 20 weeks of getting used to seeing me head out the door for my daily run, my kids have now officially become accustomed to me going. And they know I’m coming back, so instead of the dreaded “mom, don’t go!” that used to make me feel guilty and waver on whether or not I would leave, I now hear, “mom, get out there and go for your run! We’ll see you when you get back!”. And I know that it is not only good for me, but also for them to see my example of prioritizing health, treating my body with the respect it deserves, and giving myself permission to have some “me time” on the road to wherever I happen to be running that day. It is good for me, it is good for my family, and I love how that makes me feel. And on any given day that I might forget how powerful that feeling is and need a nudge, I know I have my Go Green Get Fit “sisters” to rely on for a motivational nudge.

I hope you too have had a wonderful summer, and have found a way to prioritize your health, your family, or whatever it is in your own life that needed some attention. I’m looking forward to continuing to talk about health, wellness and eco-friendly fitness with you. This may be the end of the 2012 Go Green Get Fit Challenge, but for me, it is only the beginning of my health & eco-fitness journey!

“mom, get out there and go for your run! We’ll see you when you get back!” Best words ever!! I think that one of the greatest benefits of this challenge for me has been to see how my family is getting into fitness as well… my husband is working out now and my 3 year old is always telling me we need to “ec-er-size”! Thanks for all your hard work on this challenge… you’re an inspiration!!
